Open Letter to the Town of Amherst, MA

I wrote a letter to the editor of my local paper, laying out an alternative path for my town to take in its plans for going solar. It was published on October 22. On Tuesday, Oct. 27, Amherst will hold its second informational meeting about the town’s plan to go solar. EPB launches first community solar power program

The city-owned utility is looking to the sun to power a new community-based solar farm that is projected to generate enough power for about 125 homes. EPB directors Friday approved a partnership with the Tennessee Valley Authority to launch Solar Share, a pilot program to construct 1.35 megawatts of solar generation to be distributed to a number of homes from a solar farm likely to be built on one of EPB's service lots. EPB is still working out the details of how…

Navy signs largest-ever U.S. solar deal

The Navy announced Thursday that it will buy power from a sprawling solar farm in the Arizona desert to help power 14 military installations in California, in the largest renewable energy purchase by the U.S. government to date. San Diego-based Sempra Energy expects to have the Mesquite 3 solar facility online in 2016. The 150 megawatt solar array is being built at a power complex 60 miles west of Phoenix, and has the capacity to power nearly 100,000 California households at one time by one common measure. The Western Area Power Administration, which markets and delivers hydroelectric power across 15…
