€6 billion euros fewer bought 1.2GW more wind power

One of the big indicators we use to determine if we're on track building out our new clean energy infrastructure is how much money we're spending. $1 trillion a year is a number often suggested as what is needed to be hit. However, if you check out the tweet below - you'll notice that the total amount of money invested in renewables is starting to flatline, while the total capacity is growing consistently. Inverter shipments hint at big 2018 for European solar

I'm hoping that Europe gets moving again with solar power installations. They led the world for a while, then had to slow as economic challenges gripped so many countries. Really though - it'd be nice to see China, India, Japan, Europe and the US growing at a decent clip at the same time. It's going to be tough for China to grow again, and it looks like the US and INdia might be subdued in 2018...but we'll see. Some suggest as much as 126 GW - while the professionals seem to have settled between 104-113 GW. (more…)

The basics are that we've spent many billions on hardware to move electricity - and we overbuilt because electricity is so important. Now, because we're becoming more efficiency, building distributed resources and our grid is getting smarter - that prior infrastructure is used only to 50-70% of its potential.
